Following my own error whilst bouldering, I found myself in hospital with a break in my back. Mr Bourne came and saw me on the ward and explained the options I could choose to fix the break. How refreshing to have someone with great talent, speak and treat you as a person and take the time to explain clearly all the pros and cons for each method of treatment. Mr Bourne has a calm, very friendly and sense of humour personality who will listen and answer any question and never rush or make you feel like a patient number in his list. He even used my partner as a model to help me visualise and understand better. His reassuring manner made me opt for surgery which he was able to carry out 2 days later with his team. Following my spinal stabilisation and correction to the kyphosis, I was up and moving later that day and even discharged from hospital the following day. Mr Bourne even took the time to come and check up on me in the afternoon following my morning surgery. This was totally unexpected and shows the dedication and personal well-being of his patients. After 2 weeks of recovery, I was able to meet Mr Bourne again in clinic for my check up. He again answered all my questions and reassured me by showing the x-rays of before and after the operation. I very much appreciated his personality and honesty in him understanding I am independent 51 year of women who doesn't ask for help and would rather do it herself. As he said, "We've fixed you, so if you want to do something then go on and do it; you will know what you can and can't do." Music to my ears for someone who doesn't want to be wrapped up in cotton wool. From myself and all my family, we would like to thank Mr Bourne and all the medical staff for the care I received. I have been one lucky lady and really do appreciate what you have done for me. A personal message from my Mum to Mr Bourne - she was so delighted to hear your positive news of my recovery when we saw you in clinic that the relief made her forget to express her grateful thanks for what you have done in fixing me and wishes me to pass this on now. She thought you were wonderful and had an amazing manner. Consider yourself a lucky person if you have the honour of being treated by Mr Bourne, I thoroughly recommend him.

Dr. Bourne is very thoughtful, thorough, to the point and very decisive (no messing about). When you leave after a consultation everything is clear in what the outcome will be. Recommend him.

For over twelve months I had severe sciatic-type pain in my legs and back due to arthritic degeneration of my spine. I had been on a waiting list for nine months waiting for spinal decompression, when I was offered to be transferred to Mr Bourne's care. At the consultation with Mr Bourne, it was a refreshing change to be treated as a person with a health problem not just a body, when compared to treatment I experienced in the past with other consultants. Mr Bourne was extremely pleasant and good humoured and professional and I felt that he really cared about his patients. I was put at ease immediately and he listened and discussed my condition with me and my husband and explained in detail what the operation would entail. He pointed out all the positive and negative implications and outcomes of having spinal surgery. Nevertheless, I decided to have the operation and I felt that I was putting myself into very capable hands. Within 24 hours post-op, the pain in my legs was more or less gone and I was discharged from hospital. I was glad to have Mr Bourne as my surgeon and his great sense of humour and friendly and caring attitude is something that other consultants could learn from. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to others

Mr Bourne performed an ORIF of the ulna for our young son. We were especially happy with Mr Bourne's clear explanations of the procedure, the reasons behind the method used, how the affected bones operate in conjunction with each other and how/when to encourage movement with and without cast. Mr Bourne was great at making my son feel at ease and was able to inject some humour into the conversation, which was an added bonus. We are very thankful of the care and manner in which we were treated - great service.
